Precoat powder is a fine, inert material applied to new or cleaned filter bags before they are exposed to the main process dust. It forms a protective layer (an initial dust cake) on the filters, preventing fine, sticky, or oily particles from deeply penetrating and blinding the filter media. Properly precoating the bags extends filter life and improves efficiency. The industry standard application rate to build an effective initial layer is 0.042 pounds of powder per square foot of filter cloth area.
Importance of Applying Precoat Powder
