He visitado instalaciones que llevan veinte o treinta a\u00f1os operando sin un solo incidente, y la gerencia interpreta eso como una prueba de que no tienen un problema de polvo combustible. Lamentablemente, as\u00ed no funcionan estos riesgos.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Los peligros relacionados con el polvo combustible suelen desarrollarse de manera gradual. Tal vez la producci\u00f3n aument\u00f3 con los a\u00f1os, el proceso cambi\u00f3, se modific\u00f3 alg\u00fan equipo o las pr\u00e1cticas de limpieza fueron perdiendo rigor poco a poco. En realidad, no es as\u00ed. Lo que ocurre es que el colector es precisamente uno de los lugares donde intencionalmente se concentra polvo combustible, se mantiene suspendido en el aire y circula constantemente ox\u00edgeno. Si una fuente de ignici\u00f3n ingresa al sistema, est\u00e1n las condiciones necesarias para que ocurra una explosi\u00f3n.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Las caracter\u00edsticas del material tienen una enorme influencia: el tama\u00f1o de part\u00edcula, la concentraci\u00f3n, el contenido de humedad, la composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica y las condiciones de operaci\u00f3n determinan el nivel de riesgo.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Por ejemplo, una f\u00e1brica de muebles que procesa aserr\u00edn, enfrenta desaf\u00edos muy distintos a una operaci\u00f3n de pulido de aluminio o a una planta de alimentos que manipula almid\u00f3n o az\u00facar. Desde afuera, los colectores pueden parecer iguales, pero el perfil de riesgo puede ser completamente diferente.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Un error que vemos con cierta frecuencia es que algunas empresas asumen: \"La planta vecina procesa polvo de madera y utiliza esta soluci\u00f3n, as\u00ed que nosotros haremos lo mismo\". Esa puede ser una decisi\u00f3n muy peligrosa. Cada instalaci\u00f3n debe comprender las caracter\u00edsticas espec\u00edficas del polvo que genera.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c4bf67b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c4bf67b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\u2014 \u00bfC\u00f3mo puede una empresa saber si su polvo realmente es combustible?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-075b2b6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"075b2b6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Joe:<\/strong> <em>No deber\u00eda adivinarlo. Te sorprender\u00eda saber cu\u00e1ntas conversaciones empiezan con alguien diciendo: \"Siempre asumimos que nuestro material no era combustible\". La realidad es que el az\u00facar, la harina, el polvo de madera, el papel, los pl\u00e1sticos, el carb\u00f3n, muchos productos farmac\u00e9uticos, productos agr\u00edcolas y numerosos polvos met\u00e1licos pueden volverse peligrosos bajo determinadas condiciones.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Nuestra recomendaci\u00f3n casi siempre es la misma: realizar un <a href=\"https:\/\/baghouse.com\/es\/services\/dust-hazard-analysis-dha-dust-collection-systems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>An\u00e1lisis de Riesgo de Polvo (DHA)<\/strong><\/a> y, cuando corresponda, efectuar pruebas de laboratorio. Me gusta pensar que el DHA es el plano sobre el cual se construye todo lo dem\u00e1s. No solo determina si un polvo es combustible, sino que identifica d\u00f3nde existen los riesgos dentro del proceso, eval\u00faa esos peligros y ayuda a definir qu\u00e9 medidas de protecci\u00f3n son realmente necesarias.\n\nSin esa informaci\u00f3n, muchas empresas terminan invirtiendo dinero donde no hace falta mientras dejan sin atender las \u00e1reas de mayor riesgo.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-faccd9f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"faccd9f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\u2014 Si una planta mantiene buenas pr\u00e1cticas de limpieza, \u00bfeso elimina el riesgo asociado al polvo combustible?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c170b01 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c170b01\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Joe:<\/strong> <em>No. La limpieza es fundamental porque reduce la cantidad de combustible disponible para una explosi\u00f3n secundaria. Pero no elimina el riesgo que existe dentro del propio sistema de colecci\u00f3n de polvo.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Por ejemplo, dentro de un colector tipo pulse jet se est\u00e1 recolectando material combustible de forma continua mientras el sistema est\u00e1 funcionando. Lo mismo ocurre dentro de los ductos, donde ese material se transporta constantemente.<\/em><\/p><p><em>La limpieza es solamente una capa de protecci\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n son fundamentales los controles de ingenier\u00eda, el aislamiento de explosiones, el venteo de explosiones, las inspecciones y un buen programa de mantenimiento.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ae03fe0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ae03fe0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\u2014 \u00bfLas explosiones siempre se originan en el colector de polvo?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-97329cb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"97329cb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Joe:<\/strong> <em>No siempre. Muy frecuentemente la fuente de ignici\u00f3n se genera en otra parte del proceso y simplemente viaja hasta el colector.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Hemos visto casos donde una chispa recorri\u00f3 todo el sistema de transporte hasta llegar al colector. Esa es precisamente una de las razones por las que los sistemas de detecci\u00f3n y extinci\u00f3n de chispas son tan valiosos: act\u00faan antes de que esa fuente de ignici\u00f3n llegue al colector.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Del mismo modo, el aislamiento contra explosiones merece mucha m\u00e1s atenci\u00f3n de la que suele recibir. Las v\u00e1lvulas rotativas se desgastan de forma gradual. La presi\u00f3n diferencial comienza a aumentar poco a poco durante meses. Las v\u00e1lvulas de pulso van perdiendo eficiencia progresivamente. En esencia, el venteo de explosiones consiste en darle a la explosi\u00f3n un lugar seguro hacia donde liberar la presi\u00f3n.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Si la presi\u00f3n se acumula dentro de un colector de polvo o de un recipiente de proceso sin una v\u00eda de escape, el resultado puede ser una falla estructural catastr\u00f3fica.
