Located between Lake Michigan and the Chicago Skyway at the Illinois-Indiana border, the plant has long been known as one of the <a title=\"Polluted Air Found to be a Leading Cause Of Heart Attacks, Costing 2 Million Deaths a Year\" href=\"https:\/\/baghouse.com\/es\/polluted-air-causes-more-heart-attacks-than-cocaine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dirtiest power plants<\/a> in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>With the recent passing of <a title=\"Industrial Air Permits \u2013 Overcoming the Difficulties\" href=\"https:\/\/baghouse.com\/es\/overcoming-the-difficulties-with-gaining-industrial-air-permits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stricter environmental air laws<\/a>, including reductions in emissions limits from smoke stacks, utilities are finding that many of the older plants still in operation today simply are no longer cost effective. Executives from the Virginia-based Dominion Resources which, owns the plant, announced they had decided it isn&#8217;t worth upgrading the plant to comply with the federal Clean Air Act.
