Cleaning removes part of that accumulated dust and reduces resistance.<\/p><p>This basic relationship makes DP useful for baghouses, cartridge collectors, and other fabric-filter systems. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/air-emissions-monitoring-knowledge-base\/monitoring-control-technique-fabric-filters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EPA<\/a> identifies pressure differential as an important indicator of fabric-filter performance, along with parameters such as particulate outlet concentration, temperature, airflow, cleaning-system operation, and fan current.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-98ae2a1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"98ae2a1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What Is a Normal Differential Pressure for a Dust Collector?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-72e0796 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"72e0796\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>There is no universal normal DP for every dust collector. <\/strong>As an example, some pulse-jet collectors may use cleaning setpoints around 3 to 5 in. w.g., with cleaning beginning near the upper setpoint and stopping near the lower one.<\/p><p>That&#8217;s why we would never recommend taking a generic number from the internet and using it as your maintenance setpoint. Instead, compare your readings against the collector manufacturer&#8217;s design information and, whenever possible, establish a baseline while the system is known to be operating correctly.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-90d4ed0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"90d4ed0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Pay Attention to the Trend, Not Just the Number<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-724e5e7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"724e5e7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Imagine your collector normally operates between 3 and 5 in. w.g. A reading of 4.5 doesn&#8217;t tell you much by itself. But if DP used to return to 3.5 after cleaning and now only drops to 4.5, that&#8217;s useful information.<\/p><p>The same applies to cleaning frequency. A collector controlled by DP may remain within the same apparent range while cleaning cycles become increasingly frequent. EPA guidance notes that changes from established baseline conditions, including the upper and lower pressure-drop values, can reveal developing performance problems. Common causes include:<\/p><ul><li>\u29bf Excessive dust accumulation or blinded filters<\/li><li>\u29bf Inadequate filter cleaning<\/li><li>\u29bf Wet or sticky dust<\/li><li>\u29bf Excessive airflow<\/li><li>\u29bf Incorrect filter media<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Ua4lI7ZBLvA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>\u29bf A plugged hopper allowing material to accumulate<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/C5r86d7yKgU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>\u29bf Filters approaching the end of their useful life<\/strong><\/a><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>The first question should be: Does DP decrease when the filters are cleaned?<\/strong> If it does, the cleaning system is having an effect. If it remains high, inspect the cleaning system, filters, process conditions, and airflow rather than simply increasing cleaning frequency.<\/p><p>Moisture deserves particular attention. Condensation or wet process conditions can make dust adhere to filter media and create a problem that additional pulsing cannot solve.<\/p><p>High DP can also reduce airflow if the fan does not have enough available static pressure to overcome the additional resistance. Older systems often pulse filters continuously according to a timer. Modern on-demand controls can instead start cleaning when DP reaches a high setpoint and stop when it falls below a lower setpoint.<\/strong><\/p><p>This avoids cleaning filters simply because a certain amount of time has passed.
